WILLEM ROMYN

Willem “Bill” Romyn, 85, of Stratton, Ont., went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, March 12, 1998 at Emo Hospital in Emo, Ont.
Bill was born March 23, 1912 in Zwyndrecht, Netherlands. On Oct. 27, 1933, Bill was united in marriage to Christina DenBoer.
In 1950, he and Christina and their nine children moved to Canada and settled in Portage La Prairie, Man. In 1955, they moved to Stratton, where he farmed until he sold the farm in 1970 to his youngest son, Bill.
Bill was an active member of the Emo Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and especially spending time with family, who were first and foremost in his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Arie and Ellsja Romyn; three sons, Cornelis (1943), Cornelis William (1961), and Gerret (1982); two sisters, Willemiena and Hillegonda; one brother, Eldert; and son-in-law, Terry Laird.
He is survived by his wife of more than 64 years, Christina Romyn of Stratton, Ont.; seven daughters, Elsie (George) Van Dyk of Calgary, Alta., Connie (Dan) Bruinooge of Morinville, Alta.; Audrey (Norman) Dalberg of Escondido, Calif., Tina (John) Douma of Portage La Prairie, Man., Natalie Romyn of Vancouver, B.C., Jacklen Laird of Devon, Alta., and Joanne Romyn of Edmonton, Alta.; two sons, Harry Romyn of Pinewood, Ont., and William Romyn Jr. (Delores) of Stratton, Ont.; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hendrieka, Nell, and Ellsja, and brother, Pieter, all of the Netherlands; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. at Emo Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Gerald Van Smeerdyk officiated, with interment in Emo Cemetery in Emo.
Pallbearers were Kevin Romyn, Dwaine Romyn, Colin Romyn, William Van Dyk, Robert Davy, and Dan Bruinooge Jr.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Riverside Health Care Facilities who took such good care of Dad during his illness. Thank you to friends and neighbours for their love and support in our time of need, and to Green Funeral Home for their assistance.
