Tina Petkau was born on April 11, 1938 and was taken to her Heavenly Home on March 17, 2020 at 6:26 p.m. in her home, Stratton, Ontario. She was born to Henry and Elizabeth Plett in Hanover, Manitoba, Canada.
Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her faithful husband Henry F Petkau and her 13 daughters, two sons along with all their spouses and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her three sisters, one brother and some in-laws. Mom was predeceased by her son Melvin, parents, four sisters, four brothers and some in-laws.
She moved to Quellen Kolonie, Mexico with her parents in 1948 at the age of 10.
Mom experienced deep joy and peace through her personal Saviour and Lord. She was baptized by Cornelius R. Reimer at the age of 16, with Dad together.
Mom married Dad on June 17, 1956. 14 children were born to them in Mexico. She lived 26 years in Mexico. In April, 1974 our parents moved to Stratton, Ontario, where they still live. The youngest two children were born in Canada.
Mom’s love for making quilts was evident by giving her children quilts and all 51 grandchildren got a quilt top. She made many more. Mom was talented in sewing -didn’t even need a pattern, just a picture or an idea. Her love for flowers and plants could be seen inside and outside. More of her hobbies were gardening, canning, knitting, doing puzzles, singing, playing harmonica with Dad, memorizing Bible verses and songs. Went with Dad 60+ times to Oklahoma and Texas for loads of trailers. That gave her time to spend time with her daughters there. She learned to text and Whatsapp to be able to communicate more and better with her family. Mom had the map on the table to follow along as Melvin did long distance trucking.
Family time was important to her. There was always plenty of delicious food at her house.
She had an interest in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her servant heart was evident by being so ready to serve meals, breaks and her peppermint tea was just the best.
Tina Petkau, Wife, Mother and Grandmother, thank you so much for all your prayers and encouragements to us as a family. You were not just our Wife, Mother, Grandma and Great Grandma but a true friend! Mom was a real 24/7 prayer warrior for the whole family!
There were two separate papers in the Safe, of funeral requests written by Mom. Written back in 2007 and 2009. One of those requests was to have the Plan of Salvation preached. On both papers she is open to having the funeral else where then at a church.
Mom endured many years of having an itch. This kept her awake many, many hours. Over the years she tried many different things. The main deficiency was calcium. For the last year or so she has had a lot of pain, especially in her back, and lately, it was all over her body. Many chiropractor visits, which did not seem to help. She was hospitalized in January and in March. At the last hospitalization she was told she had pneumonia and multiple myeloma (cancer).
Mom was taken home by ambulance March 17, 2020 due to the many restrictions at the hospital.
Due to the community restrictions in place with the pandemic, a private family service was held in her memory followed with interment in Stratton Cemetery.
