Sophie Onichuk, 94, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, July 20, 1998 at her residence.

Sophie was born Oct. 30, 1903 in Pleasant Home, Man. to the late Ivan and Anna Mudry. She was raised in Pleasant Home until her teen years, when she moved to Winnipeg, Man.

In 1924, Sophie moved to Fort Frances and in March, 1924, she was united in marriage to Harry Gregory Onichuk.

Sophie enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting, knitting, and especially singing. She always had a special place in her heart for her family, and always enjoyed spending time with them.

She ws predeceased by her husband, Harry Onichuk (May 23, 1974); two sons, Benjamin and James Onichuk; daughter, Polly LeBlanc; several grandchildren; three sons-in-law, Leonard Mercure, Stan Covell, and Leo LeBlanc; and three sisters and one brother.

Sophie is survived by two sons, Tom Onichuk and wife, Ann, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Steve Onichuk of Montreal, Que.; three daughters, Julie Covell of Ear Falls, Ont., Lena Mercure of Fort Frances, Ont., and Nettie and husband, Ken Walker, of International Falls, Mn.; 32 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Father Ed Kosa O.M.I. will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.

Friends may visit prior to the service at Green Funeral Home.
