SOPHIA STRAUME

The family of Sophia Straume sadly announces her passing on Monday, June 20, 2005 in Port Alberni, B.C.
Sophie was born July 16, 1937 to George and Lena Ballan. She grew up in Fort Frances, Ont. and lived here and in International Falls, Mn. for most of her life.
She worked at La Verendrye Hospital and the Fort Frances Clinic for many years. After leaving the clinic, she moved to Port Alberni to be with her fiancé, St. Clair Leslie.
Sophie enjoyed her retirement with St. Clair. Together, they renovated their house, and took much pride in the vegetable and flower gardens, the fruit trees, and the lawn.
They also enjoyed golfing and taking her dog “Pepsi” for long walks.
Sophie was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Willie, Vic, George, and Ernie; a sister in infancy; and a nephew, Dan Ballan.
She is survived by her fiancé, St. Clair of Port Alberni, B.C.; his children, David, Elaine, Lorraine, and their families; sister, Eileen (Richard) Tremblay of Port Alberni, B.C.; and brothers, David (Chrystee Lea) Ballan of Billings, Mont., Peter (Sophie) Ballan of Fort Frances, Ont. and Donald (Judy) Ballan of Fort Frances, Ont.
She also is survived by sisters-in-law, Millie Ballan of International Falls, Mn., Barbara Ballan and Joyce St. Pierre of Port Alberni, B.C., and Marion Ballan of Fort Frances, Ont., along with all their families.
At her request, cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be interred in the Fort Frances cemetery when arrangements have been finalized.
