It is with great sadness that the family of Severino “Sam” Piccinato, 95, announces his passing on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018 at the La Verendrye Hospital in Fort France, Ont.

Sam was born on April 2, 1923 in Azzano Decimo, Italy to the late Vittorio and Albina Pizzinato.

He was united in marriage to Pierina Gasparet on April 26, 1947.

He immigrated to Canada on Dec. 18, 1949, followed by his wife and son on Feb. 2, 1951.

Sam worked as a union carpenter with various contractors in the district and continued doing so even after his retirement. He and his wife, Pierina, built their family home in Fort Frances, which he resided in until the age of 95.

Throughout his life Sam, enjoyed going fishing, partridge hunting, and camping. He also loved to spend time tending his tomato plants and flower garden.

He spent many hours in his workshop, crafting beautiful wooden bowls that were given to his family and friends and will be cherished forever. He also had a passion for bowling and through this formed many lasting friendships.

He carried out the Italian tradition of making wine with the help of his family. After the loss of his wife, his family discovered he had quite a passion for cooking, which included delicious homemade soups, spaghetti sauce, and risotto, which were enjoyed by many.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him the greatest joy. His face would light up whenever he saw them, and he loved watching them and spending time with them when they visited.

Sam was predeceased by his wife, Pierina, his parents, and siblings.

Sam will be lovingly remembered and missed by his son, Noris (Sandy), and grandchildren, Gillian and Tyson; daughter, Danila (David) Hoard, granddaughter, Melissa (Richard) Cunnigham, and great-grandchildren, Xavier and Peyton, of Kakabeka Falls, Ont., granddaughter, Tara (Domenic) Morelli, and great-grandchildren, Sisily and William; and daughter, Liana (David) Khober of St. Albert, Alta., granddaughter, Bonnie (Richard) Gordon, and great-granddaughter, Tia, grandson, Michael (Cass), and great-grandchildren, Ella and Devin, of Edson Alta., and grandson, David Jr. (Betty), and great-grandchildren, Hayden and Kendall, of Morinville, Alta.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Alan Albao officiating.

Interment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.

The pallbearers will be Gary Gregory, Rick Stamarski, Ken Dick, Gary Vittie, Bruce Henry, and Gerry Poltz.
