Peter Landry, of Barwick, Ont., passed away suddenly, at the age of 76, on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2019 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Peter was born on April 19, 1942 in Pinewood, Ont. to Hector and Irene (nee Gouliquer) Landry.
As a child, his family moved often because of work. Among the places he lived were Atikokan, Ont., Gimli, Man., and Alberni, B.C. As a youth, he helped build the South Saskatchewan Dam for a number of years.
He was united in marriage to Joanne Wilkins on March 19, 1966 in Atikokan. They moved to Dunblane, Sask., where Peter helped build the South Saskatchewan Dam for a few more months.
Joanne did not like the prairie so they soon moved to Ear Falls, Ont. and then on to Ignace, Ont., where they remained for 25 years. In 1998, they moved to Barwick.
Over the years, Peter operated heavy equipment, as well as drove truck and tour buses. He enjoyed tinkering with mechanics. Peter always took time to visit with family and friends, often reminiscing about the early years.
His devoted care for Joanne was beautiful to see. Peter enjoyed helping people, whether it was keeping the scoreboard at the baseball diamond or doing errands for his friends.
He will be greatly missed by his brother, Tom (Wendy), and many members of the Landry family, especially his nephews, Scott, Ricky, Josh, and Jason and his niece, Joan; the Gouliquer and Wilkins families; as well as his adopted family, the Martins.
Peter was predeceased by his wife, Joanne (2015); parents, Hector and Irene Landry; brother, Blaine Landry; and nephew, Matt Landry.
A time of fellowship was held in Peter's memory on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont.
Funeral and committal services will be be announced in the spring.
