It is with profound heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Boon Sr. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 at Riverside Health Care in Fort Frances, Ont.

Peter passed away peacefully with his family by his side.

Peter was born on Nov. 26, 1933 in Grootebroek, Netherlands.

He was predeceased by his parents, Johannesbug Boon and Elisabeth Maria Boon (Shouten); brothers, Freek Boon and Cees Boon; son Hank Boon; daughter, Annie Gladu (Boon); son, Peter Boon Jr.; and granddaughter, Amanda Boon.

Peter leaves to mourn his loving wife, Annie Boon (Swart); children, John Boon, Fred Boon, Richard Boon (Cheryl), Christopher Boon, Paul Boon, and Cathy Ash (Ray); daughter-in-law, Doreen Boon; son-in-law, Joe Gladu; grandchildren, Jason Boon, Jennifer Boon (Dale), Nicholas Gladu (Daly), Lucas Gladu, Dan Kanu (Alexis), Billy Ash, Jessica Ash, Alexandra Boon, and Ari Boon; and great-grandchildren, Madison, Imogen, and Wellington.

He also is survived by his siblings, Tini Manshanden, Els Scholte (Hans), Ans Helmig (Loek), Marja Boon, Ton Boon (Ria), and Martin Boon; as well numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter was born and raised in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1956. Peter and his wife, Annie, settled in Miscampbell, Ont., where they started a family and Boons Farms.

Peter loved his family and his farm, and owned and raised cattle until this year.

Peter earned his First Class Operating Engineer Position and retired from Abitibi-Consolidated in 1998. Peter also belonged to the Christian Farmers Association and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Peter was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and grandfather (Opa). He had a very strong work ethic on the farm and at his work in the mill. He was a determined problem-solver and always found a way to get the job done.

Learning the English language after immigrating to Canada and pursing his education helped him achieve his goals. Peter always had his nose in a book, and always was learning about the world and all the changes that came along with it.

Even though he had a strong work ethic, his heart of gold and compassion was there for all his family and friends. If someone was in need of help, family or friends, Peter was there to help.

A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 209 Victoria Ave. in Fort Frances.
