It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Michael Joseph Roy on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018.
Mike was born on Oct. 2, 1956 to George and Grace Roy in Fort Frances, Ont.
Mike had many passions in his life and a great sense of humour. He was a man of strong conviction with a tender heart who was a hard worker in both the mining and forestry industries.
He loved living on the edge with his dozer, travelling often for work long distances but his family was never far from his heart.
Mike is survived by the loves of his life, Grace Marie Roy (Gushulak), whom he married on June 9 1995, and the Montreal Canadiens—and depending on the day, some might question which order they fell.
Mike cherished his children and grandchildren with all his heart, Kristi McQuay (Trevor and children, Simon and Samuel) of Atikokan, Ont., Alison Roy of Atikokan (children, Liam and Malachi), Kristal Carlson (Jason and children, Chelsea, Megan, and Molly) of Thunder Bay, Ont., Tiffany Wyatt (Doug and children, Nicholas, Hayden, and Angelica) of Raymond, Alta., and Rita Oreel (Dan and children, Jacy, Kylie, and Ava) of Atikokan, Ont.
There was nothing that made Mike happier than spending days with his grandchildren. His eyes would shine as they told him stories of their days, helped him with chores around the house, and when he had the opportunity to teach them something new.
Mike's siblings were inspirational in his love of sports, and he always told stories of his love for them and shenanigans they got into: Raymond (Kim) Roy of Fort Frances, Ont., Richard (Evelyn) Roy of Kenora, Ont., and his baby sister, Barbara (Dave) Roy.
Mike also is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
At Mike's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
However, in the spring there will be a celebration of life to honour him and lay him to rest as he set out in his final wishes.
GO, HABS, GO!
