MARIE McDIARMID

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Mom on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.

Mom was born on Jan. 18, 1932 in Springwater, Sask.

She married Donald Gerald McDiarmid on Oct. 18, 1950. Together they had three beautiful children, Douglas (1951), Wendy (1954), and Cindy (1957).

Don and Marie started their married life farming in Springwater and soon moved to Fort Frances in 1952 due to Marie's health.

Mom was predeceased by daughter, Cindy, in 1957; husband, Don in 1964; and son, Douglas in 1979.

Following the death of her husband, Mom completed a secretarial course prior to entering the workforce. Her first job after the program in 1967 was at the Fort Frances Town Hall. Many will remember Marie as the cashier, taking their money for light bills.

Mom proceeded to work at Family and Children's Services as a statistician until her retirement in 1995. She was a precise and exacting employee. Her constant goal was to function at the highest possible level and nothing less was acceptable.

Marie gave back to her community be being an active member of Kinettes, the Auxiliary of Royal Canadian Legion, and the Business Professional Women's Association, and a membership in the Knox United Church for 67 years.

Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Wendy; daughter-in-law, Joan; grandchildren, Theresa McDiarmid and Holly Williams (Rod); great-grandchildren, Veronica, Smantha (Landy), and Kaytlin (Bryan); plus four precious great-great-grandkids, Anastasia, Demetry, Penny, and Phoenix, who called her “GG.”

Marie also leaves behind four special people who called her Gran Marie: Jim Armstrong, Melissa Armstrong-Rado, Kyleigh Ossachuk, and George Ossachuk.

Also left missing Marie are her sister Joyce Horst (Harvey); brother, Bill Turner; brother, Douglas Turner (Linda); sister, Lynn Neovard; and brother-in-law, Ken McFayden; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including great- and great-great ones.

Marie also felt blessed by having many caring and supportive friends.

To quote her special great-great-granddaughter, Anastasia, “I love you around the world and back again.”

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Pastor Diane Clifford officiating.

Marie supported many charities. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
