LYNN KEHLER

Lynn Kehler passed away, surrounded by the love of family and friends, on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.

Lynn was born in Indiana to Herman and Maureen Bryant on Nov. 14, 1934.

Her family lived between Indiana and Kentucky in her early years. Her teenage years were spent in California, where she became an avid equestrian and talented pianist.

Upon graduation from high school, Lynn continued on to USC in Los Angeles, with academic interests in physiotherapy. While working for a Catamaran business, she met her first husband, William Fontana, and came to live in Fort Frances, Ont. in 1953.

Whatever she set her mind to doing, Lynn would accomplish in spades and so she turned her focus to promoting and expanding Canadian Wilderness Floating Lodges Houseboat Rentals.

Years later, she was given an opportunity to work at Green's Furniture. Owner Van Green and the staff at Green's became her friends and work family until her retirement.

Moving to her home on Emo Road brought a new chapter to her life. She fell in love with and married Jake Kehler. Together, they enjoyed all things curling and actively participated in our local club.

Lynn was a lover of animals. She believed that her house was not a home unless it was shared with a dog, cat or both. She also was a skilled seamstress and gardener, and especially enjoyed playing Bridge with friends.

As she entered retirement, it was important to her that she give back and she did this through her volunteer work as a member of the hospital auxiliary and Rainycrest auxiliary.

Lynn was predeceased by her newborn child, Kelly Fontana. In 2000, her husband, Jake Kehler, passed away.

She also was predeceased by Jake's brothers, Vernon Kehler and Harvey Kehler; his sister, Ann Braun; Lynn's former sister-in-law, Jenny Wonfor; and nephew, David Fontana.

She is remembered with love by her sister-in-law, Della Klippenstein and family, Art, Pat, Jim, Richard (Debbie), Barbara MacIntyre (Drew), and Debra Klippenstein (Kelly), whose phone calls and visits were so loved by Lynn.

She is lovingly remembered by her nieces, Tracy Morrish (Guy) and son, Andrew, and Gina Wonfor-Keast (Cam), and Riley, Haley, and Braedon and extended family from her first marriage; brothers-in-law, Morris Wonfor, James Fontana (Marg), and Larry Fontana (Betty); and nephew, Mark and family.

They say friends are our family of choice and for Lynn she leaves to grieve her closest friends, Chris and Jim Lowey, and their son, Blair (Donna) and their children, Jessica, Nichole (Matthew), and Kaela.

She was very blessed by the attention and love of her neighbours, Margaret and Ed Katona, who became her extended family and caregivers, and their children, Nicole, Natalie, and Shane and their families.

Lynn welcomed many of her friends and family to her home, always giving a hug and saying, “I love you and you mean so much to me,” with everyone who visited.

Lynn never wanted to be a bother to anyone and so she felt no need for a funeral service.

In memory of Lynn, donations may be made to Rainycrest Auxiliary c/o the Riverside Foundation for Health Care, 110 Victoria Ave., or the Fort Frances Friends of Animals, Suite 404, 225 Scott St.
