LENA KRAWCHUK

Lena Krawchuk, 72, of 839 Armit Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, May 3, 1998 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.

Lena was born Dec. 29, 1925 in Fort Frances to the late John and Veronica Fichuk. On May 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Morris Krawchuk and together they raised their family in Fort Frances.

Lena worked for several years at Wilkins China Shop and Garton’s Jewellers. She was a member of the St. Anna’s Women’s Group and was an avid Bingo player.

Lena also enjoyed cooking for family and others but she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her three brothers, Pete, Bill, and John Jr. Fichuk; and sister, Dora Wagner.

She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of nearly 51 years, Morris Krawchuk; sons, Wayne Krawchuk and wife, Diane, and their son Kaid, and Randy Krawchuk and wife, Carla, and their children, Terry and Tana, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; two sisters, Mary and husband, Bill Kenaszchuk, of Stoney Creek, Ont., and Stephanie and husband, Leonard Plonski, of Cannon Falls, Mn.; sisters-in-law, Helen Fichuk, of International Falls, Mn., and Adele Fichuk of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 6, 1998 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Father Michal Lomaszkiewicz officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.

Friends visited Tuesday, May 5, 1998 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.

Pallbearers were Mike Kowalchuk, Murt Marsh, Alex Markowski, Bert LaVigne, Ed Grabowski, Nick Kingerski, Stan Blasky Jr., and Alan Markowski.

Honourary pallbearers were Helen Kitzul, Mary Marsh, Mary Kingerski, Dora Kolomy, Hilda Tkachuk, Ruth Sauve, Sadie Kowalchuk, Chris LaVigne, Ann Grabowski, Adele Markowski, Linda Rajala, and Ann Guzzi.

In memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 444, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8, or Amethyst House-Northern Cancer Research Foundation, 290 Munro St., Thunder Bay, Ont., P7A 7T1.

The family of Lena Krawchuk would like to thank Dr. Jenks, and the nurses and staff on St. Andrew’s Ward for their loving care and support for both Lena and the family during her prolonged illness.
