KALVIN OTTERTAIL (Ozii-gi-zhii-gweb)(Waasii Clan)

Kalvin Ottertail, 59, of Lac La Croix First Nation, Ont., passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. with family by his side.
Kalvin was born on July 18, 1957 in Lac La Croix First Nation to John and Rose Marie Ottertail.
He lived in Lac La Croix First Nation all his life; teaching and working as a cultural co-ordinator. He also served as a band councillor.
He enjoyed attending pow-wows, hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors.
Kalvin was united in marriage to Margaret Geyshick on July 18, 1980. He loved spending time with family and friends, and cherished the family cook-outs held at his home.
He leaves behind his wife, Margaret Ottertail; son, Allan Ottertail (Miranda); daughter, Alanna Ottertail (Curt Moon); and grandchildren, Jordan Brown, Shantay Menson, Kiera Ottertail, Shane Ottertail, Kianna Shughure, Chris Shughure, Eden Ottertail, and Aniyah Hunter.
He also is survived by his siblings, Daryl Ottertail (Marsha), Richard Ottertail, Brenda Geyshick (Dan Sr.), and Carol Geyshick (Carl); nieces, Tracy (Brad), Linda (Justin), Janine, Jennifer, Chasity, and Karissa; nephews, Daniel, Randy, Tyrell, Dylan, and Kevin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews with the Geyshick family.
Kalvin was predeceased by his parents, John and Rose Marie; son, Eric Lee Ottertail; and sister, Linda Ottertail.
A wake will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at noon at the Zhingwaako Zaagaa’igan School in Lac La Croix First Nation.
A traditional service will follow on Friday, April 28, 2017, with Elder Gilbert Smith and Elder Tommy White officiating.
Interment will take place in Lac La Croix First Nation.
