John “Janos” Koles, 90, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 with his family by his side.
John was born on April 13, 1927 in Napkor, Hungary and immigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Fort Frances.
He was united in marriage to Margaret Vasadi on Aug. 10, 1972.
John worked as a logger here in Rainy River District until he retired in 1977.
John was a loving family man who was passionate about gardening and making wine and sauerkraut, and he always was eager to share with family, friends, and neighbours.
John loved to dress fine, sing, and attend the dances at the Legion.
He was a true Toronto Maple Leafs' fan and was known in the community by his kind-hearted demeanor.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret; son, John (Dawn); grandchildren, Hunter Koles and Brooke Roulston; and great-grandchildren, Asher Roulston and Cohen Roulston.
John was predeceased by his first wife, Edith Cave; brother, Peter; and his sisters, Elaina, Julie, Margaret, and Maggie.
A memorial mass was held Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Alan Albao celebrant.
