It is with great sadness that the family of Jessica Margaret “Jessie” Friday announces her passing on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances. Ont.

Jessie was born at Namakan Lake, Ont. to John and Mary Swanson. She lived in Seine River First Nation, Ont. all her life, only moving to Rainycrest when her health would not allow her to stay home.

She was united in marriage to Boudreau Friday and together they raised 10 children. Jessie loved family and was very involved in their lives.

She worked as a midwife, delivering 16 babies in Seine River. She also was a language teacher and foster parent, and worked as an education assistant at the Mine Centre School from its opening until her retirement in 1997.

She enjoyed beadwork and making jingle dresses, as well.

Jessie shared special relationships with each of her 100 grandchildren. Kokoo’s house was their favourite place to visit with her. She left a legacy of love and great memories with all of them.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary; husband, Boudreau; daughters, Charlene, Patricia, and Valerie; brother, Tom Kelly; sister, Evelyn Johnson; and son-in-law Ray McIntyre.

Jessie leaves behind her children, Bernadette McIntyre, Kathy Friday, Larry Friday, Dorothy Friday (Earl Klyne), Lorraine Friday, Louise Friday, Terry Friday, and Cheryl Friday (Toby); 34 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A traditional wake will be held Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 from 4 p.m. at the Seine River First Nation gymnasium.

A traditional burial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Seine River First Nation gymnasium.

The pallbearers will be family and friends.

The honourary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews, and all her grandchildren.
