It is with great sorrow that the family of Jeannie Fiset announces her unexpected passing on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in Thunder Bay, Ont.

She was born on March 21, 1952 in Fort William, Ont. to Waino and Margret (nee DeCourt) Hamalainen.

Jeannie grew up in Pigeon River, Ont., moving to Atikokan, Ont. in 1954.

She was united in marriage to Jacques Fiset on Nov. 20, 1970 and together they settled in to raise their family.

She loved taking care of her family, doting on her children, cooking, cleaning, canning, and tending to their needs. She was very proud to be able to provide them with a warm, loving home.

The family moved to Fort Frances, Ont. in 1986.

Jeannie enjoyed the outdoors, taking family trips, camping, and fishing. She also loved animals and was the proud owner of several dogs over the years.

As her health failed, Jeannie joined the community of Rainycrest. She participated in as many activities as she could there, enjoying her time with the residents and staff.

She leaves behind her husband, Jacques, of 46 years; son, Jack Jr. (Angela) and their children, JJ, Jaymee, and Riley; daughter, Jeanette Roth and her sons, Dylan and Andrew; stepmother, June Hamalainen; and brother, Eddie (Vicki) DeCourt.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Arthur and Odella DeCourt; parents, Waino and Margret; and son, Waino.

A celebration of life for Jeannie was held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances.

A private family interment will be held at a later date.
