JEAN VIVIAN DUSTIN

Sadly, with heavy hearts, the family of Jean Vivian Dustin (nee Odahl) announces her passing, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the age of 64 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre in Dryden, Ont.

Jean was born in Fort Frances, Ont. on June 1, 1953, the youngest of three daughters to Stella and Oscar Odahl.

She attended St. Mary's Elementary School and Fort Frances High School.

On Nov. 30, 1990, she graduated from Regional Schools for Registered Nursing Assistants as an RPN and worked at Hogarth and Bethammi nursing homes in Thunder Bay, Ont., as well as several other health-care positions in Thunder Bay and Dryden.

She married Dewayne Dustin on Oct. 30, 1970 in Fort Frances, and on Sept. 17, 1976 they welcomed their son, Jeffery, into the world.

Jean spent her life caring for others right to the very end. She was a talented photographer and artist who enjoyed spending time creating arts and crafts with her beloved grandson, Cameron.

Jean often surprised family and friends with small handcrafted gifts and poems she had written. She had a wonderful and quirky sense of humour, and brought a smile to everyone's face.

No one was a stranger to her; they were only a friend she hadn't met yet.

Jean is survived by her husband, Dewayne; son, Jeff (Joanne Petit); grandson, Cameron; granddaughters, Chantelle and Cassandra; and several great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by her sisters, Elsie (Ralph) Sandford and Judy (Gary) Holden; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Stella (Crawley) Odahl; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herb and Elsie (Arnold) Dustin.

A celebration of Jean's life will take place on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Home's Chapel, with Fr. Alan Campeau officiating.

Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lung Association of Ontario through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, Ont., P8N 2X3.
