JANELL ASHLEY MORRISSEAU

The family of Janell Ashley Morrisseau, of Couchiching First Nation, would like to announce her unexpected passing in Regina, SK on Sunday, April 6, 2014.
Janell was born on December 10, 1982 in Fort Frances. She attended Fort Frances High School, graduating from Seven Generations Secondary School.
She was undecided in her career path and eventually received her General Arts and Science Diploma from Confederation College. She also enrolled at Rainy River Community College and received her Associate Arts Degree along with Indigenous Studies.
Her summers were spent working with Health Canada–First Nations and Inuit Health Branch being mentored by the staff and her co-workers John Steele, Dean Bruyere, Lisa Krishka, Lorraine Cupp, Cindy MacKinnon, Barb Kircher, and Wendy Horn. These summers lead her to her decision to enter First Nation University–University of Regina studying Environmental Science.
Janell ultimately decided that she wanted to change programs, and was working on her Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and First Nation Health when she passed.
Janell enjoyed spending time with her large extended family at barbecues, suppers, playing cards and teaming up with one of her cousins in a board game. Janell was always willing to help out where she could, which inspired her to share her dreams with mom on what her plans were once she finished her degree.
Janell had that special bond with her gramma and she would just pick up the phone just to talk with her and hear her voice. She loved to hear her stories and was constantly learning and listening about her culture and traditions.
Janell loved being an Auntie to her biggest joys, nieces Meghan and MacKenna. She showered them with gifts and unconditional love. She cherished her summers and visits to home when she could see her “babies.”
She leaves behind her mother Lucille Morrisseau; sister Jennifer and her partner Erwin Bruyere; nieces Meghan and MacKenna Bruyere; grandmother Louise Morrisseau; her godfather uncle Doug Morrisseau all of Couchiching First Nation; special cousin Dale Morrisseau of Emo, who was like a big brother to her; aunties Carol (Reg Rogers) of Couchiching, Elaine (Bob Law), Laura (Elmer Spruce), and Amanda (Leroy Gabriel) all of Winnipeg; uncles Allan (Mary) of International Falls, Richard, Harry Jr. (Joy), Bill, all of Couchiching First Nation; and Patrick, and Sheldon (Andrea) of Fort Frances; along with her many cousins.
Janell was predeceased by her grandfather Harry Morrisseau Sr.; aunts Alfreda Kearney and Phyllis Morrisseau; cousins Michael Kearney, Ricky Morrisseau and Kelly Rae Morrisseau.
A wake will be held on the evening of Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Couchiching First Nation Multi-Use Facility with a traditional funeral service following in the morning of Thursday, April 17, 2014. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
