Sadly, the family announces the peaceful passing of Jadwiga Chojko-Bolec, 97, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont.
Jadwiga was born in Poland on Jan. 28, 1920. After escaping Poland during World War II, she immigrated with her family to Canada in December, 1951, living for a short time in Hull, Que. and Chatham, Ont. before settling in Arbor Vitae, Ont., where she raised her family and worked hard on the farm.
Jadwiga always enjoyed being outdoors. In her garden, vegetables and flowers gave her pleasure, spending hours weeding. In her chicken coup, she took pride in unusual chicken breeds and peacocks.
She also loved her family; helping out any way she could supporting her children, George, Mirek, Mark, and Janni and, in later years, taking pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She instilled the Polish culture in the family through traditional foods, language, and holiday gatherings.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, George (Ellen), Mirek (April), Mark (Cindy), and Janni (Harald) Rosenfeld; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Tadeusz, in 2007; an infant son; and her parents and sister in Poland.
A funeral mass was held Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Church in Pinewood, Ont.
Interment will take place in Our Lady of the Way Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
The pallbearers were Clifton Chojko-Bolec, Nadine Gerula, Cora Chojko-Bolec, Kris Chojko-Bolec, Tyrel Chojko-Bolec, and Everett Chojko-Bolec.
The honourary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren.
