Sadly, with her family by her side, Helene Tompkins (nee Schock), 87, of Emo, Ont., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018 at the Emo Health Centre.
Helene was born on Sept. 2, 1931 in Blue Township, Ont. to John and Mary Schock.
She was united in marriage to Edward Tompkins on Nov 18, 1950. She operated the Solo Store in Emo from 1964-1988.
She was a valued member of Knox United Church in Emo, volunteering often for social events. Helene also was active in the community and promoted recycling where she could to keep the town of Emo clean.
She enjoyed attending and helping where she could at the Emo Fair and Emo stock car races. She also delivered “Meals on Wheels” for years and never missed an Emo council meeting.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Betty Ann Brown, John Tompkins, and Rod Tompkins; grandchildren, Becky, Ashlee, Tyler (Jason), Jennifer, Thrisha (Tim), Kali, and Skylar (Sharon); and great-grandchildren, Marlee, Mattie, Daffni, Aili, Turner, Peyton, Dominic, Rowan, and Noah.
Helene was predeceased by her husband, Edward (2003); children, Gary (1982) and Cindy Jewett (2002); and granddaughter, Amanda Jerry (2000).
A time of fellowship and remembrance was held in Helene's memory on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 from noon-2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Emo.
Interment will take place in the Emo Cemetery.
