Harold Barron, 87, of Barwick, Ont., passed away Saturday, July 25, 1998 at the Portage District General Hospital in Portage LaPrairie, Man.
Harold was born June 3, 1911 in St. Catharines, Ont. to the late Alex and Gertrude Barron. Raised in Macon, Sask., he was united in marriage to the late Marjorie Barron (nee Webb) on June 3, 1936.
In October, 1937, Harold and Marjorie moved from Calgary, Alta. to Barwick, Ont. where together they farmed and raised their family. Harold resided in the Barwick area for 61 years, except during World War II when he spent six years active service in the Canadian Army Forestry Corps. in Europe from 1939 to 1945. When he retired from military duties, he returned to the family farm in Barwick and raised his family. Harold worked at various jobs until his retirement and was active in local church, the community and involved with various charities.
He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie, his infant son Robert, and his brother Roy.
Harold is survived by five sons Kenneth (Lois) of Cannington, Ont., Bruce (Blanche) of Greenwood, N.S., Bill Berry (Chris) of South Hampton, Ont., Gerald (Carolyn) of Greenwood, N.S., and Allan (Marianne) of Portage La Prairie, Mn.; three daughters, Elaine Barten of Caesarea, Ont., Barbara Forbes (Cory) of Barwick, Ont., and Ruth Stewart (Robert) of Emo, Ont.; two brothers Norman (Joyce) of Barwick, Ont., and Murray (Helen) of Brandon, Man.; one sister Mildred McInnis (Dan) of London, Ont.; twenty-eight grandchildren; fifty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998 at 2 p.m. at the Barwick Community Church in Barwick, Ont. Pastor Mark Rathwell officiated with interment in Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont.
Pallbearers were Harry Steiner, Dennis Steiner, Lyle Wheatly, Allen Jolicouer, Sherwin Kavanaugh and Peter Krahn.
Honourary pallbearers were Bill Clink, Roy Galusha, Cecil Wilson, Mark Van Heyst, Glen Hart and Glen Jackson.
