Surrounded by family and friends, Gordiena “Gordie” Drennan passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2019 at Rainycrest Long Term Care Home.
Gordiena Vesta Bell Hyatt was born June 11, 1932 in Devlin, Ont. to Gordon and Ella Hyatt.
Gordiena spent most of her life in the Rainy River district with the exception of her employment in Stratford, Ont. when she worked in the textile factory and when she attended Marvel Beauty School in Winnipeg, Man.
After completing beauty school she returned to Rainy River, Ont. where she opened her own business “Gordie's Beauty Bar.”
She continued to operate Gordie's Beauty Bar until shortly after her marriage to Ernest Drennan on Nov. 28, 1964.
She then moved to the family farm in McInnes Creek where she and Ernie raised their children Bennett and Janet.
She remained on the farm until moving to Rainycrest in February 2011.
Gordie was a kind and caring person who loved to spend time with her family and friends. She especially loved being a Grandma to Ernie, Nolan and Carlin.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and passing the time with word search puzzles. There was always fresh baking for anyone who stopped by for a visit.
Gordiena will be sadly missed by her children, Bennett (Dawn), and Janet (Dennis); sister, Corelene (Larry) Boland; grandsons, Ernie (Sarah), Nolan and Carlin; great-grandchildren, Jonah, Addisyn and Petra; sister-in-law, Vivian (Bob) Locking; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, Ernie; parents, Gordon and Ella, and sisters, Iris and Marliene.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 at 1 p.m. from the McInnes Creek Chapel, 576 River Rd, Dawson Twp., Rainy River, Ont.
