Frank Korb, 80, of the Northwood Lodge in Red Lake Ont., and formerly of Stratton, Ont., passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018.
Frank was born in Morley Township, Ont. on July 11, 1937 to Anthony and Theresa Korb.
Frank began working in the bush at a young age with his father and older brother in addition to farming. As years went on, he would work at numerous jobs, including Tolen's, while farming and logging with his brother, Rueben.
He also worked for a time out west but always preferred to stay close to home.
After being a bachelor for so many years, Frank met and married Alma but not just “Alma”—it was Alma and her family. He felt like he had the world by the tail; he had a family that already raised was and on their own, with the exception of Greg, who was a young teenager still living at home. Frank gladly played the father and grandfather role.
Frank enjoyed gardening, tending his farm animals, and frequent visits to the Stratton Café to get the “current events.”
After Alma's passing, Frank sold the farm and moved to the Stratton Manor. But as his health declined, he moved to Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances and then to Northwood Lodge in Red Lake to be closer to family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his stepchildren, Larry (Heather), Greg (Liliana), and Marilyn (Lorne); four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Reuben; sisters, Margaret and Mary; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Theresa; wife, Alma; and siblings, Anthony (Tony), Julie, and Theresa.
A service of celebration and remembrance was held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Eileen Bragg officiating.
Interment will take place in the Stratton Cemetery at a later date.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the charity of your choice c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
