FRANCES ELIZABETH NELSON

It is with great sadness to announce that Frances Elizabeth Nelson, 86, passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, with family by her side, at Riverside Health Care Facilities in Fort Frances, Ont.

Frances was the daughter of Agnes and Ed George. She was born on Dec. 23, 1930 and raised in Fort Frances.

She spent her younger years in Flanders, where her family loved hunting and trapping. Later, Fran went to work at various tourist camps as a cook.

During that time, she met her husband, Hank. Fran also was a cook at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.

Fran and Hank lived in Devlin, Ont. to begin their life together and raise their children. In 2009, they moved to Queen Street Manor in Emo, Ont.

In her younger days, Fran loved cooking and canning food from the bountiful garden Hank planted and grew every summer, as well as the wild game he harvested.

In her later years, Fran enjoyed going to the casinos with her great friends, Inez, Bonnie, Eve, and Helen, and also enjoyed reading books.

Fran also loved to talk about old times and reminisce with her family. Her candy jar always was full for her grandchildren, and she always wanted to know how the fishing was or how the hunting trip went.

She always appreciated and loved a fresh feed of walleye that her great-grandchildren would catch and bring to her.

Fran was so thankful and happy to attend the Calder reunion this past summer. She felt such happiness to see the many faces she hadn't seen in a long time.

She loved to see the view of Rainy Lake that she once worked on, and listen to those who strummed a familiar tune.

Fran also was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan. You always could find a game on her TV or discussing the game when you gave her a call.

Fran leaves behind her sons, Wade (Marlene) Nelson, August (Mike) Nelson, Mark Nelson, and Eric (Edna) Nelson; and her daughter, Cindy (Gary) Korpi.

She also leaves behind her brothers, Joe (Phyllis) George, John (Dylinda) George, Wayne (Bev) George, and Jim (Sherry) George.

Fran was very proud and fond of her grandchildren, Kirk (Stacey) Nelson, Derek (Missy) Nelson, Luke Korpi, Gary Nelson, and Michelle Nelson; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Connor, Kaden, and Kale Nelson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

There was never a time that she didn't tell them how much she loved them all.

Fran was predeceased by her parents, Agnes and Ed George; sister, Pat; and brothers, Herb (Jennie) George and Bobby George.

At Fran's request, there will be a family gathering in her memory at a later date.

If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the charity of your choice c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
