It is with great sadness that the family of Eva Mattson announces her passing on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont.
Eva was born on Aug. 17, 1937 to Joseph and Irene Unger in Fort Frances.
She was united in marriage to Jack Mattson on June 15, 1957. Together they raised two boys, John and Dan.
Eva was a member of the Grey Nuns Association and enjoyed volunteer work at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, Man. She was well-known and appreciated for her quiet books. She made and donated 105 of them during her tenure.
She doted on her “boys” and as they grew and started their families, her attention shifted to her grandchildren. They were her joy and her face would light when they would visit.
She loved to tease them, with a mischievous grin and a trick up her sleeve, accompanied by a little giggle that would turn into a belly laugh.
She leaves behind her husband, Jack; sons, John and wife, Diane, and Dan and wife, Julie, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; and grandchildren, Kristal (Jasen) Mayfield and their children, Malachi and Kaden, Stacy (Dwayne) Strom and their children, Keira, Austin, and Zach, Greg Mattson (Jenna), and Stephanie (Darwin) Lance and their children, Sawyer and Oaklyn.
She also is survived by her sister, Jane (Herb) Snow; brothers, Ron (Gwen) Unger and Ed Unger; in-laws, Dorleen (Bud) Dyrland, Sharon (Max) Beyak, Marvin (Sandra) Mattson, Margreat Anderson, and Randy Mattson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Eva was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Irene; brother-in-law, Terry Anderson; and in-laws, John and Pearl Mattson.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances.
The honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Kristal, Stacy, Greg, and Stephanie.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
