Esther Gertrude (Buffington) O'Brien, of Assiniboia, Sask., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018 at the Assiniboia Union Hospital with her daughter, Dawn, at her side.

Esther was born on Sept. 15, 1938 to Robert and Nettie (Kehl) Buffington in Fort Frances, Ont. The youngest of seven children, she was six months old when she and her siblings were placed in the Rainy River foster care system.

Esther trained as a bookkeeper in Toronto, Ont. in the early 1960s and moved on to establish a successful bookkeeping firm of her own with many satisfied clients.

She was married in 1956 and four children were born to that union. She married again, to the love of her life, Greg O'Brien, on May 27, 1989 and they enjoyed 29 years together.

As a mother, Esther loved unconditionally, accepting the faults as well as the virtues of her children.

Esther is survived by her loving husband, Greg O'Brien of Assiniboia, Sask.; children, Cathy (Mike) Nicheporchek of Pennsylvania, Dawn (Bill) Ottman of South Dakota, and Bev Dew and Don (Lisa) Dew of Ontario; beloved granddaughter, Tracy (Holly) of Lavigne, Maine; as well as six other grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by her twin brothers, Ray and Roy Buffington; and a special nephew, Lyle Buffington.

Esther was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Nettie Buffington; sisters, Lorna and Joyce; and brothers, Henry and Jim.

At Esther's request, no funeral will be held.

A graveside service will take place at a later date in Lemmon, S.D.
