Sadly, the family announces the sudden passing of Derek Peterson, 44, of Rainy River First Nation, Ont., on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at his residence.
Derek was born on March 30, 1973 to Allen and Melvina (nee Blackburde) Peterson.
He enjoyed watching NASCAR and local stock car racing, working on stock cars, fishing, and spending time with his son, Jessie.
Derek will be greatly missed by his son, Jessie, and Jessie's mother, Pam Mandamin; siblings, Deanna Peterson of Emo, Ont., Florabelle (Randy) Both of Chapple Township, Ont., Dwayne Blackburde of Rainy River First Nation, Ont., and Leann Barrie of Winnipeg, Man.
He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Derek was predeceased by his parents, Allen and Melvina Peterson.
A traditional wake will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 from 4 p.m. at the Rainy River First Nation gymnasium, followed by a traditional service on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 at 10.a.m., with Elder Albert Hunter officiating.
Interment will take place in Rainy River First Nation.
The pallbearers will be John Mandamin, Gabriel Mandamin, Lawrence Kelly, Kevin Hagen, Kevin Callaghan, and Chad Blackburde.
