Delbert Wesley Barker passed away on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, with his family by his side, at Rainycrest Long-Term Care Home in Fort Frances, Ont.
He was born on June 30, 1932 in Box Alder, Ont. to Wesley and Erma (Hughes) Barker.
He attended school in Box Alder and then Fort Frances High School before finishing his education at the Sharon Bible School in North Battleford, Sask.
On Oct. 1, 1955, Delbert was united in marriage to Winona “Nonie” Lennox. They settled on the family farm to raise their three sons.
He was an avid reader and had a fascination with machinery. He worked at the Fort Frances paper mill for 32 years.
He and Nonie also enjoyed their annual camping trips with both friends and family.
Delbert set a wonderful Christian example and was a great provider for his family. He was an Elder at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Devlin, Ont., whom he cared for like a second family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Erma; wife, Nonie; daughter, Wendy, in infancy; stepmother, Helen; and brother, David.
Delbert leaves behind his sons, Edward (Ted) and wife, Cheryl, Keith and wife, Lise, and their children, Billy and Mandy (Sam), and Joseph (Joe) and Lisa and their children, Trista (Bryden), Tyler (Chelsey), Trevor, and Scott; and eight great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by his sister, Ruth and husband, Paul Hyatt; brother, Gary Barker and wife, Susan; sister-in-law, Evelyn Barker; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Dan Tausendfrende and Terry Hoffman officiating.
The honourary pallbearers will be Tyler Barker, Bill Barker, Ken Barker, Duane Tausendfrende, and Jurgen Schmutz.
