CHRISTINA (CHRIS) LOWEY

Christina (Chris) Lowey (nee Vanderhorst) passed away peacefully at La Verendrye Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019 with her family by her side.

Christina was born Nov. 8, 1927 in Winnipeg, Man. to Johannus and Huberdina Vanderhorst, the fourth of six children.

Christina will be forever remembered by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, Todd (Terry), Robert (Kim) and Blair (Donna); grandchildren, Brienne (Sean) Bodkin, Brittany (Ryan) Manz, Melissa (Alexandre) Lowey, Leanna (Steve) Lowey, Nichole (Matt) Kahn, Jessica Lowey and Kaela Lowey; great-grandchildren, Harper Bodkin, Vivienne Bodkin, Owen Manz, William Barrette and Nathan Barrette; and sisters, Gunnie Noia and Pearl Slyford.

She also leaves behind numerous extended family members.

Christina was predeceased by her husband James, parents Johannus and Huberdina Vanderhorst, in-laws, Gladys and Ben Carlson, and Wilfred Lowey; her sisters, Mary Lecuyer and Audrey Tank; and brother, Joe Vanderhorst.

Chris attended secretarial school in Winnipeg and in her early days worked as a legal secretary for McLennan's Law office and later as a secretary in the Probation and Parole office for the Ontario government.

She also worked with her husband with their market gardens for many years and loved going out to the greenhouse to transplant in the spring.

She was a devoted Catholic and a regular attendee at St. Mary's Parish right to the end of life. She was a member of Catholic Women's League and an active member of Beta Signa Phi sorority for over 60 years.

Chris shared her love of family and friends by making, baking and sharing food. She welcomed friends to join for dinners if they were on their own so that everyone had a place to go to for a meal or a coffee break.

She was a great baker and was known for her pies, cookies and fruit cake. For years she spent much of her retirement baking her fruit cakes and selling them at the farmer's market. Everyone loved her fried chicken dinner and it would be a family request when coming for a visit.

She valued family and post-secondary education and was proud to tell her friends about her families' accomplishments.

Chris will forever be remembered for all the memories she made throughout her life with her family.

Cremation has taken place and in keeping with mom's wishes, no service will be held; a private family mass will be held at a later date.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory to Christina can be made to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care by cheque c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89 Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
