It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Almer Godin, 88, of Rainy River, Ont., at his residence on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018.
Almer was born to George and Mary Godin in Rainy River on March 22, 1930.
In his younger years, Almer worked as a guide on Lake of the Woods for various resorts. He then became a lineman for Ontario Hydro and went to work for the Town of Rainy River.
He worked as a lineman and foreman for the Town of Rainy River for 27 years until his retirement in January, 1991.
Almer loved the outdoors, and hunting and fishing were his passions. Almer went hunting and fishing every chance he had with his family and friends. He passed these family traits down to his children and grandchildren.
When Colin and Sharilynn Wood became owners of the bake shop in Rainy River, Almer didn't miss too many days of going for coffee and catching up on local news with his friends. He enjoyed every minute.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Larry (Sherri) Best of Chetwyn, B.C., Linda (Roger) Bell of Milton, Fla., Bill (Nell) Godin of Devlin, Ont., Dennis Godin of Thunder Bay, Ont., Danny (Stacey) Godin of Unity, Sask., and Brad (Kari) Godin of Rainy River, Ont.; all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Irene (late Fred) Connon of Calgary, Alta.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Almer was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Godin; the love of his life, wife, Evelyn (2009); and nine siblings.
A celebration of life and fellowship was held on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rainy River.
A private interment took place in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
