ALICE 'JENNIE' SOCKOLOTUK

It is with profound sadness that the family of Alice “Jennie” Sockolotuk announces her passing on Dec. 16, 2019 at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont.

Mom was born in Fort Frances on Sept. 15, 1929 to Thomas and Polly Ossachuk.

She was a cheerleader in high school and she loved basketball. While in Grade 10, she was offered a job at Taylor's Electric. She loved the job and Cora and Daryl Taylor, the owners; they loved her and treated her like gold. They became lifelong friends.

During that time she met the love of her life, Stanley Lawrence Sockolotuk, and they were married in 1950. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage and would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this January.

Mom and Dad had four children in four years and both worked extremely hard. Mom not only raised four children, she sewed drapes at home, cooked and baked for the family, and kept an immaculate home.

Together, they decided to venture into their carpet and drapery business in 1970, and it is still thriving today.

Mom decided to retire at the age of 75 and to take it easy. In her later years, her health worsened and she moved to Rainycrest Long Term Care on Nov. 30, 2017.

Jennie was an extremely hard worker who persevered through the trials and tribulations with not only owning a business but with tragedy in the family. Mom never got over that.

Her dedication to the family and those around her were extraordinary. No one could ever take her place.

Mom shared the good times with laughter but also dried our tears; she had a heart of gold. She embraced the love of her children and touched their hearts forever.

Mom made a lot of friends and business acquaintances and many people reminisce about her professional decorating ideas. Mom was a fanatic about baseball and curling (a pastime of her younger years), and enjoyed the lake in the summer.

She leaves behind her husband, Stan; daughter, Janis Lesko (Andrew); granddaughter, Myriah of London, England; sons, Thomas and Stan Jr. (Karen); granddaughter, Lindsey Romero (Romel) of Kenora, Ont.; brother-in-law, Garry Sockolotuk of Kenora; and many nieces and nephews.

Jennie was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Polly Ossachuk; son, Rae; in-laws, William and Elizabeth Sockolotuk; and all of her brothers and sisters.

A celebration of her life will be held in the new year.

If friends so desire in memoriam donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Rainycrest Auxiliary in care of Green Funeral Home, Box 427, 600 Reid Avenue, Fort Frances, ON, P9A 3M8.

Online condolences may be made in care of www.greenfuneralhomefortfrances.com.
