It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Johnson on Monday, Sept. 28, 2015 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont.
Sandra was born June 5, 1924 in Fort Frances to Fred and Dora Wihnan, and she lived in Fort Frances all her life.
Sandra was united in marriage to Eric Arthur (Doc) Johnson on Jan. 25, 1944. Together, they celebrated their 67th anniversary before he passed away on July 6, 2011.
They spent many happy years at the lake cottage.
Sandra worked at Lerman’s Department Store, as well as McTaggarts as a buyer for ladies’ clothing. She enjoyed her time with the ladies in sorority as well as curling.
In May, 2010, she and Doc established the Eric (Doc) and Sandra Johnson Endowment Fund to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care to support La Verendrye General Hospital.
She was predeceased by her husband, Doc Johnson; parents, Fred and Dora Wihnan; sisters, Ann Armstrong, Mary Domish, and Margaret Andres; and brothers, John Wihnan and Bill Wihnan.
Sandra is survived by her sister, Sophie (Pete) Ballan; brother, Nick (Anne) Wihnan; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Cremation has taken place and Sandra’s urn will be placed with her beloved Doc.
