ALEX GAWRYLUK

It is with heartfelt sorrow we announce the passing of our father, best friend, and mentor, Alex Gawryluk, on Friday, July 6, 2018.

Dad started his journey from this Earth while in hospital with his daughter, Marcella, son-in-law, Brian, daughter, Diane, and son, Bryan, by his side.

Dad said the girls where his angels—ever vigilant at his side for the seven weeks while in hospital. Cousins Marty and Bryce always were present until the end.

Dad went peacefully . . . knowing he was loved.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially Mr. Nick Mutz, Dad's birthday buddy. Dad touched so many lives, and never judged, condemned, or turned anyone away.

Born on April 19, 1929, Dad worked hard all his life. From the sawmill to the peat moss plant, Matthews estate, the CN Railway, and the Rainy River Housing. He took pride in everything he did.

Family was important to him. Many say he is the glue that held us together.

He was united in marriage to Laurette Noel on Feb. 18, 1952. Together they raised five children, Brian (Jocelyn), Gerald (Betty Ann), Noella (Daryl), Diane (Rolf), and Marcella (Brian).

He also leaves behind eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous Godchildren, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Dad was the eldest of his family and as a young boy, promised to keep them together as a family and that he did. Until the end.

He was the last to go.

He was predeceased by his wife, Laurette Noel; second wife, Verna Johnson; son, Gerald; siblings, Mike Elyk, John Elyk, Helen Audette, Mary Boudreau, and Dora Elyk; and parents, Wasylina (Lena) Shypit and Nykola Gawryluk.

Rest in peace, Dad.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 7-9 p.m at Green's Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont.

There will be a private burial service and memorial at a later date.

In memoriam donations may be made to the women's shelter of Atikokan.
