Two southern Ontario men have been fined $5,000 and banned from hunting for two years for illegal moose hunting.
Alain Brisson, 52, of Embrun, and Andre Brunet, 61, of St. Eugene, pleaded guilty to hunting cow moose without cow tags, abandoning the kill, and allowing the meat to spoil.

Court was told that on Dec. 9, 2006, Brisson and Brunet were hunting with five other people about 50 km northwest of Nipigon on the Black Sturgeon Road in Wildlife Management Unit 15B.
Each man shot and killed a cow moose within minutes of one another although their hunting party was licensed for two bull moose.
The men abandoned both moose.
They reported the incident three days later to the Ministry of Natural Resources but the meat had spoiled by then.
In the meantime, another hunter in the area tipped off Nipigon District conservation officers that a couple of hunters had asked him if he had a cow tag.
The MNR reminds hunters that if they commit an offence, they should contact the ministry as soon as possible. Officers often will take into account prompt disclosures and mitigating circumstances before deciding whether or not to lay charges.
Hunters are reminded that it is an offence to abandon flesh suitable for food and allow it to spoil.
