Don Armstrong

It is with great sadness that the family of Don Armstrong announces his passing on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Don was born March 7, 1944 in Fort Frances to Gerald and Lyla Armstrong. The family lived in the Kingsford area and that is where he gained his love of the outdoors, whether it was spending time at the lake, fishing, boating, or hunting.
He was united in marriage to Judy Halvorsen on Nov. 27, 1964 and together they had three sons, Wade, Bob, and Scott.
As a young man, Don worked for his uncle, George Armstrong, and the Caland Mine before starting his own trucking business, Don Armstrong Trucking, in 1966. He operated this business for more than 25 years.
He enjoyed travelling and working throughout Northwestern Ontario. Don also had a great affection for his family and always was taking an interest in their lives.
He leaves behind his two sons, Wade and Scott (Bev) of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandson, Mathew Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., and grandchildren, Jamie (Ashley), Matthew, Josh, and Jenna, and great-granddaughter, Ariel, all of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving is his sister, Carole (Bill) McLean of Devlin, Ont.; brother, Erwin (Bea) Armstrong of Fort Frances, Ont.; step-brother, Gary Hodge of B.C.; aunts, Eva (Sid) Ross of Fort Frances, Ont.,Viva Cummings of Leduc, Alta., and Doreen Coats of Victoria, B.C.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Don was predeceased by his son, Robert (Bob), on June 6, 2003; mother, Lyla Hodge, on July 2, 1999; father, Gerald, on March 20, 1953; and stepfather, Joe Hodge, on Dec. 20, 2001.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Frances Flook will officiate, with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Ray Lowes, Bill McLean, Randy Carmody, Doug Halvorsen, George Jordan, and Gerald Armstrong.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of Don’s family and friends.
