She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Wrolstad on April 24, 1994; and her sister, Julia and her husband, Arvid Edberg. Ellen was born in Oland, Finland on Feb. 11, 1922 and, at the age of four, came to Canada with her mom to join her dad and older sister, Julia, who had come over earlier. They arrived in New York by boat and then came by train to Sleeman, Ont. They finally made it to Bergland, Ont., where she lived until 1992. Ellen attended school in Bergland and on Oct. 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Marvin. They raised three children, Marion, Marlow, and Donna, and together they farmed for several years. It was a life Ellen enjoyed, and she took great pleasure in gardening and canning. She corded and spun her own wool on her spinning wheel, and was well known for her woolen socks as well as the best coffee ever made. In 1975, Ellen and Marvin took Marvin’s brother, Delphis, into their home and for the next 24 years, Ellen cared for him. In 1992, Ellen and Marvin decided to leave the family farm and moved to Emo, Ont. Ellen stayed there until 1996, when she moved to Fort Frances to be closer to her family, but she still loved to spend a few days on the farm during the summer. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999 at Green Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Pastor Jeffrey Plett officiated, with interment in the Bergland Cemetery in Bergland, Ont. Pallbearers were Todd Wrolstad, Chad Wrolstad, Brent Lowes, Kenny Runke, Mike Mihichuk, and George Friesen.
