Terry Fox Run slated for Sept. 16

Category:

The Terry Fox Run will be held here for a 26th year.

The national fundraiser for cancer research is slated for Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Sorting Gap Marina, with registration at 1 p.m. and then the walk/run at 2 p.m.

Lead organizer Judy Koski, who has been the office manager at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau since June, said the route has been altered this year due to the construction at the overpass.

“We can't get up to the Point this year,” she noted.

Instead, participants will make their way from the Sorting Gap to La Verendrye Hospital and back again.

“It's a slightly shorter route but that may appeal to some of us less-seasoned runners,” Koski remarked.

Participants are urged to collect pledges prior to the event.

Pledge sheets can be picked up at the Volunteer Bureau on Fourth Street West (old CN station) on Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

They also can be downloaded from terryfox.org

Official Terry Fox Run T-shirts also will be available on-site for $20 (adults) and $15 (youth), with various sizes available.

If it's raining, registration will take place inside the marina building.

As well, water and a fruit snack will be available for the participants.

While this is Koski's first year spearheading the Terry Fox Run, she noted she has volunteered at it in the past.

Koski has been on the volunteer bureau's board of directors for several years.

Last year's Terry Fox Run, organized by former volunteer bureau executive director Matt Soprovich and Joey Payeur, drew 62 participants and brought in $8,477.

More details about the Terry Fox Run may be announced in the near future.
