Lots to do here

Nothing to do in Fort Frances, you say? Think again.

Almost 30 local clubs and groups are attending a “1-Stop Registration” event being held tomorrow (Sept. 6) from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Sports Centre auditorium. That's right, almost 30!

Geared to both youth and adults, they cover a wide range of interests. A variety of sports are offered—from curling, badminton, squash, minor hockey, and youth basketball, volleyball, and indoor soccer to swimming and figure skating. You've got other fitness pursuits like the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Club, Fort Frances Wado Kai Karate, and Northwest Taekwondo.

And that's not to mention what's offered at the Memorial Sports Centre and local businesses like Curves and Energy Fitness.

There's also dance and horseback riding, along with groups like the air cadets, five levels of Girl Guides, and the local First Responders. Then there's programs at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre, as well as the Urban Aboriginal Healthy Living Program, WasaNabin Fort Frances Youth Program, and the Fort Frances Youth Project.

KidSport Fort Frances and Canadian Tire's “JumpStart”—programs that provide financial assistance to families who otherwise cannot afford to enrol their kids in sports or other activities—also will be on hand at tomorrow's event to offer information.

Other groups that aren't listed as participating in “1-Stop Registration,” but which still offer leagues/programs locally, include five-pin bowling, darts, cross-country skiing, men's basketball, women's volleyball, and women's indoor soccer. Or perhaps getting involved with Fort Frances Little Theatre or the Borderland Community Orchestra, or signing up for local art/craft classes, is more up your alley.

Yet another option is becoming a member or volunteer with one of the numerous clubs and organizations that play such a key role in keeping our community humming.

Whatever the case, local residents are fortunate to have a wide variety of options to consider in terms of recreation, hobbies, and interests to keep them busy over the fall and winter months.

It's just a matter of getting off the couch and getting involved!
