MARY BADIUK

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Badiuk (nee Bybliw) announces her passing, on Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at the age of 93 in Nanaimo, B.C.

Daughter to William & Dora Bybliw, Mary was born in the town of Fort Frances which she would call home for most of her life, until moving to B.C. in 2009 to be close to her family.

On Oct. 27, 1948, she wed Metro Badiuk. They would enjoy 68 years of marriage, two daughters, four grandchildren, and countless adventures together.

Mary was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and remained loyal to the Ukrainian community throughout her life. These lifelong dedications were recognized and celebrated by St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church to which she and her family belonged.

Mary was also a committed member of St. Anna's Ukrainian Women's Association and the Ukrainian Literary Society. Many days were spent at “the Hall” making pyrophy and holubtsi.

She lived for the friendships she shared with the ladies of these clubs and of the community as a whole. Willingness to help with anything and everything the church or hall needed was a great pride in her life.

Mary was a wonderful cook, baker and entertainer. She loved to host parties, organize gatherings, and bring her family and friends together as often as possible. She was always planning something because she was happiest when surrounded by those that she loved.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Dora; her sister, Olga; her husband, Metro; her daughter, Elaine; her many brothers and sisters in-law; and her nieces and nephews which she loved so dearly.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Joan; son-in-law, Donald; grandchildren, Leah and husband Jan Hoberg, Tyler Merkel, Andrew Pecyna and Alyssa Pecyna, and her sister-in-law, Dixie Badiuk.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday Aug. 30, 2018 at the Sands Funeral Home in Nanaimo with Father Roman Tsaplan officiating. A cremation will take place and Mary will be returned to Fort Frances and laid to rest.

Should family and friends so desire, donations may be made in memoriam to St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

You will be forever in our hearts, rest in peace Baba.
