Women's soccer season extended another week

Category:

A change to the schedule in the women's division of the Borderland Soccer League will see Al's Racquet Stringing and La Place Rendez-Vous facing each other twice more this week.

The two squads were originally slated to begin their best-of-three playoff series to determine the winner of the two-team division last night, but instead played a regular-season game (outcome not known at press time) and will do so again tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.

Playoffs for both the women's and men's divisions will kick off next week.

The Vous used four different goal scorers to down Al's Racquet Stringing 4-1 last Tuesday night.

Myla Angus, Claire Hyatt, Maggie Jean, and Claire Sobkowicz all bulged the twine for the Vous (5-2-1).

The keeper duties were shared between multiple players.

Sara Kellar supplied the lone goal for Al's (2-5-1).

Phyllis Pierson suffered the loss between the pipes.

In men's division action on Monday night, first-place CJ Contracting battled to a 2-2 tie with second-place Centra in a makeup game for the one that was postponed back on June 6.

It was the second-straight tie for Centra (4-6-2).

Ian Jodoin netted his league-leading ninth goal while Connor Bujold had the other marker for CJ (7-2-3).

Alex Gustafson manned the net.

Tyler Hamm tallied and played in goal while Nico Veldhuisen potted the other marker for Centra.

Centra came into that game after also managing a 2-2 tie with last-place Manitou Forest Products last Wednesday night.

Chris Sinclair opened the scoring for Manitou (3-6-3) in the first half when he broke in on goal past the Centra defenders and blasted a low shot past Hamm.

Jeff Hyatt drew Centra even later in the half with a well placed shot that beat Manitou keeper Jacob Albright.

Connor Nelson then tallied early in the second half to put Manitou ahead once again.

But that lead evaporated when Jesus of Centra made a few impressive dekes before firing a shot past Albright.

Both Hamm and Albright were solid when called upon down the stretch to preserve a point for their respective squads.
