The Race of Champions Mid-season Shootout was the perfect time for Gavin Paull to shine once again.
The Fort Frances native claimed his third feature win of the year in the WISSOTA Modifieds division, and also took the lead in the points standings, in Borderland Racing Association action Saturday night at the Emo Speedway.
Paull now has 604 points—just four more than Brody Strachan of Emo (600), who did not finish Saturday's race and wound up in 11th place.
Jeff Davis of Devlin rounds out the top-three of the division's points standings (593).
Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, Man. was second in the feature race while Brady Caul of Fort Frances came third.
Jamie Davis, meanwhile, captured his third checkered flag of the season in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature.
That came after he was unable to finish the race in the Modifieds division and settled for 10th.
Dayton Brady of Devlin was just behind Davis while Tanner Williamson of Fort Frances nabbed third place.
Cody Ossachuk of Fort Frances, who finished fifth in the feature, still holds a 21-point edge in the standings over Brady (612-591).
Fellow Fort driver James Lambert sits in third spot (577).
And David Caruk of Thunder Bay won his first feature of the season in the Street Stocks division.
He claimed the checkered flag over Jesse Thompson of Emo, who also was seeking his first win of the year.
Paul Hari nabbed third spot while Shawn Reid of Thunder Bay was fourth.
With his second-place finish Saturday, Thompson maintained his lead in the points race with 575—a 19-point margin over Raice Westover of Fort Frances (556).
