With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our brother, husband, and father, William Kenneth Gratton, on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

Ken was born on Nov. 12, 1947 in Kenora, Ont. In early childhood, he moved with his parents, Bill and Rene Gratton, and sister, Sandy, to Fort Frances, Ont., where his father operated the North Star/Shell service station at the corner of Scott Street and Portage Avenue.

After attending elementary and secondary school at Robert Moore School and Fort Frances High School, Ken graduated from Grade 13 in 1966. He attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. and Lakehead Teachers' College in Thunder Bay, Ont., and taught school in Devlin, Ont. for a short time following his father's death in 1970.

Ken subsequently earned an MBA degree and also took the CMA designation and membership in the Society of Chartered Secretaries.

Following a period of employment with Revenue Canada, Ken owned and operated a successful tax and accounting business in Toronto, Ont. until the time of his passing.

On July 28, 1979, Ken was married to Mary Louise Murtaugh and their daughter, Katherine Elizabeth, was born in 1982. Together, they enjoyed many family activities.

With a twinkle in his eye, Ken always was ready with jokes and humorous comments. He also enjoyed art, classical music, movies, food, cooking, reading, and travel.

Ken was predeceased by his parents, William George Gratton and Laura Irene Lovisa (née Isakson) Gratton.

Ken will be missed and fondly remembered by his wife and daughter, Mary and Katherine (both of Toronto, Ont.); his sister, Sandra Gratton, and her husband and daughter, Lawrence MacIsaac and Ainsley MacIsaac (all of Nova Scotia); and numerous members of the Murtaugh family.

Visitation and funeral were held at Morley Bedford Funeral Services in Toronto, followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
