It is with deep sadness that the family of Paul David George Begin announces his sudden passing on Friday, April 20, 2108 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Paul was born on Aug. 8, 1942 in Fort William, Ont. to Cecilia and Adelord Begin. He grew up and attended school in Thunder Bay before moving away and settling in Fort Frances, where he lived until his passing.
Before leaving Thunder Bay, Paul went on a blind date and met the love of his life and wife of 51 years, Darlene (Peterson). Their early years were spent together working and raising their children, Kevin, Daryl, and Jennifer. They lived in Toronto, Brantford, Kenora, Dryden, and Fort Frances, where they made their permanent home.
Paul liked to travel and go on sightseeing road trips with the family. Early on, he took the family on cross-Canada road trips with a camper in tow. Summer camping trips to the provincial park on Lake of the Woods gave a constant opportunity for family bonding.
Paul was skilled with tools and built three family houses in Fort Frances. He involved his sons and taught them skills which they used to Reno and fix things as adults.
He also loved to plan and co-ordinate family barbecues and get-togethers.
Paul worked in numerous managerial and sales jobs, as well as at the local mill. He spent a large number of years driving a UPS truck and formed many friendships with customers while making deliveries throughout the district.
He also worked in later years at Sunset Ford and the Do-It Centre until his retirement.
After retirement, Paul spent time fishing, golfing, meeting friends for coffee, and attending his grandchildren's sporting and leisure events. In service to others, Paul joined the Knights of Columbus and served as a board member at Columbus Place.
Paul is lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene; three children, Kevin (Dana), Daryl (Shanda), and Jennifer (Gerald); grandchildren, McKenna, Matthew, Jesse, Kenzie, Avery, Alexa, and Amanda; as well as siblings, family, and friends.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Adelord, and Cecilia; father- and mother-in-law, Harold and Esther Peterson; siblings, James, Joan, and Gordon; and sister-in-law, Kathy Von Niebelshutz.
Cremation has taken place.
In order to include all family and friends, a celebration of life is being planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
