Laurie Jimmy Norris, 69, passed on peacefully, with family by side, on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018.
He was born on June 21, 1948 to Jim and Lorraine Norris in Emo, Ont.
He joined the Canadian Army as a Royal Canadian Engineer's craftsman. Following his service with the army, he became a Master Electrician and was a longtime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 402 Thunder Bay.
His choice of work resulted in moving from place to place, and he spent a few years in McKay, Queensland, Australia. In 1990, he returned to Fort Frances, where he has lived since that time.
He was united in marriage to Valerie Morrisseau on June 21, 1994.
Laurie enjoyed tinkering with his inventions, carpentry work, and painting. He also enjoyed attending traditional ceremonies and pow-wows, and looked forward to stopping for a game or two of Keno on his way home.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie; children, Roy (Diane) Norris, Paul (Jennifer) Wolff, and Laura (Gord) Wright; father, Jim Norris; brother, Brad (Evelyn) Norris; grandchildren, D'artagnan, Jubilee, Heather, Julia, Sarah, Matthew, Naomi, Nico, and Fawn; nieces, Holly and Lindsay; godchildren, Tyson and Kaydence; and stepdaughters, Shannon and Susan.
Laurie was predeceased by his mother, Lorraine.
A celebration of Laurie's life will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church at Couchiching First Nation, Ont.
The pallbearers will be Tyson Morrisseau, Matthew Wright, Roger Spencer, Craig Tough, Steven Tucker, and Dylan Simard.
The honourary pallbearers will be Estelle Simard, Kaydence Morrisseau, Mildred Bruyere, Sherry Loveday, and the Red Gut Brewers.
