Shoebox program a success

This year's Christmas shoebox program, part of the Samaritan's Purse organization, was deemed a success!

Some 505 shoeboxes were gathered up this past weekend filled with items generously donated by residents across Rainy River District.

These shoeboxes will be delivered by Tompkins Hardware in Emo to a collection centre, where they will be shipped out to needy children in Ukraine, Central America, South America, and Africa.

“Operation Christmas Child,” as it is otherwise known, is a hands-on project that brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes packed by Canadians.

Thanks to all who contributed to this valuable program.

Thanks to the Municipality of Emo, the Emo Chamber of Commerce, and New Gold for the incredible fireworks display following the “Holly Daze” parade on Friday evening.

Thanks, as well, to all the businesses, individuals, organizations, and churches for your contribution to the parade. The floats and lights were incredible!

A large crowd enjoyed the celebration and the good weather. What a super effort by everyone involved!

The Rainy River District community co-ordinator for the Cloverbelt Local Food Co-op is looking for input on its food programs.

To facilitate this request, Cloverbelt has created an online survey, which can be accessed until Dec. 15 at

Cloverbelt wants to reach as many people as possible across the district so the final document reflects the wishes and values of the residents. For this reason, they've been looking for as much participation in the survey and development of the charter as possible.

Participants will be entered into a draw for one of 10 $50 CLFC gift certificates.
