The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce has filled its slate of officers for 2012 following nominations at its fall general meeting here last Thursday.
The executive will include Mark Caron (M.L. Caron Electric) as president, Leo Melanson (B•93 FM) as first vice-president, Robin Payeur (Causeway Insurance) as second vice-president, Luke Skaarup (Union Gas) as treasurer, and Cathy Emes as past-president.
Directors will include Chris Benz (TD Canada Trust), Lisa Plourde (RBC Royal Bank), Miles Kuharski (Gillons’ Insurance Brokers), Krista Gushulak (CIBC), Jennifer Horton (The UPS Store), Jen Gauthier (Ainsworth Engineered Canada LP), Steve Gushulak (Fort Frances General Supply), Dale Fortes (Boston Pizza), and Travis Glowaski (Studio Gibbous).
Appointees include Coun. John Albanese (Town of Fort Frances), Angela Halverson (RRFDC), Gord Winik (Resolute Forest Products), and Christine Jourdain (Couchiching First Nation).
Jane Gillon (MNDMF) is an ex-officio member while Chamber manager Anthony Mason is a staff rep.
In other news, the Chamber will be looking at bringing a little more “home” to its home and leisure show next spring.
“We’re going to try and promote contractors, home improvement people, suppliers for carpets, heating, stuff like that,” noted Caron.
“Get them involved in the trade show.
“There has been other trade shows in the past from other companies that have done this,” he added.
“They no longer are doing this, so we are going to try and bring them people in and try to expand on our home and leisure show—bring a new light to it.”
Caron said he, Mason, and the home and leisure show committee are working to improve the event.
He later added that revenues from the 2011 home and leisure show were down, which is why the Chamber is going to put a lot of attention on it in 2012.
