The inaugural Muskie girls’ hockey team has been picked but co-coach Mark Lafleur admitted it wasn’t an easy decision.
“Tryouts were very good. We have got the team picked and it looks good,” he enthused. “We are really happy with who we have got.”
But he also said having to cut girls from the team was the hardest thing he’s had to do.
“It was a tough decision—I have never had to do that before,” Lafleur remarked. “It was hard on the girls but they handled it well.
“If we were picking people strictly on desire, then every girl would have made it but we have to go with skill level as well,” he reasoned.
Lafleur said they’re now taking some time off before hitting the ice for practice next week, noting some of the girls are still playing high school basketball.
“Now we have got to get the games set up. We are still working on the big season,” he stressed.
