In the province of Ontario, Oct. 15-22 is designated as Foster Family Week.
Family and Children’s Services of the District of Rainy River is responsible for the safety and protection of children. Whenever possible, the goal of the society is to keep children in their own family. However, when this is not possible, children may be brought into the care of the Children’s Aid Society.
When this happens, the first choice for the children is to be placed in a foster family as we believe their needs are best met in a family environment.
The foster families of the District of Rainy River work with the society staff as part of a team to develop the best possible plan for the children placed in their homes.
The ideal plan is for the children to be reunited with their families. However, where this is not possible, the plan may include long-term foster care or adoption.
The 32 foster families in the district provide stability and a caring home that encourages a child’s growth and development. Fostering requires dedication and commitment to children.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my wholehearted appreciation and thanks to the foster families in the District of Rainy River. The care you provide to the children placed in your home has had, and will continue to be, a positive influence in their lives.
