With the June 12 entry deadline fast approaching, the Fort Frances centennial committee is still looking to the community for some ideas for logos and slogans to promote the event.
“There’s been a fair amount of talk but nothing going on. We haven’t received any entries,” CAO Bill Naturkach, a committee member, said yesterday.
“Hopefully somebody comes up with something, instead of nobody. We’re looking forward to any ideas,” he added.
Naturkach said the purpose of the logo/slogan contest—which opened about two weeks ago—is to get the community involved in organizing the town’s centennial, which officially falls on April 11, 2003.
Numerous other events are being planned for the week of June 30-July 4 of that year.
“We don’t want it to be a town-centred event,” he stressed, referring to the municipal administration. “We want the community involved.”
Naturkach noted having a logo and slogan is important to promoting any event, especially one as large as the committee wants to make this one.
“I had the opportunity of reviewing our files back to 1967 and we literally had the same contest. That resulted in the Little Amik,” he remarked.
The town still owns the rights to the trademark despite a legal battle with the 1976 Montreal Olympic committee. “I hope we don’t have to go through that again,” Naturkach chuckled.
The logo and slogan, which should be created to represent Fort Frances and its history, do not have to be submitted by the same person.
The winner(s) of the contest will receive formal recognition from the mayor and council on July 1, and “the satisfaction of contributing to the centennial event,” said Naturkach.
The logo and slogan selected will become the sole property of the town, and will be used for any purposes in its sole discretion. They may be permitted for use by others but only with written consent.
Entries may be submitted no later than noon next Tuesday (June 12). They can be dropped off at the Civic Centre or mailed to Naturkach c/o 320 Portage Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3P9.
They should be marked “Logo and Slogan Contest.”
Entries also can be faxed to 274-8479 or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
