Taggs, Manitou both win

The Borderland Soccer League women’s division game last night had the Struchan Gilson pitches more closely resembling the O.K. Corral.
In a shootout that easily could have taken place in the Wild West, Taggs outgunned Al’s Racquet Stringing 7-6 to take over sole possession of second place.

Sara Roach had her six-guns blazing for Taggs (2-2), netting four goals, while Hannah Firth-Oster notched a pair.
Heather Wright added a single.
Claire Crichton replied with a hat trick for Al’s (1-5-1), with Gaby Nussbaumer chipping in with two more.
Sara Kellar had opened the scoring in just the second minute of the game with a breakaway goal.
The offence wasn’t flowing quite as much over on the men’s side, but it was no less a thriller as Manitou Forest Products eked out a 4-3 victory over Pharmasave.
Ahmadou Idrissou looked every bit the league scoring champ he was a season ago—scoring all four goals as Manitou (5-1-1) won its third-straight and took over first place by itself ahead of idle International Travel Services (4-1-1).
Isaac Firth (two) and Kevin Metke tallied for Pharmasave (2-4), which lost its second in a row.
League action resumes Monday with Al’s and Taggs having a rematch in the women’s division.
In men’s play, Pharmasave will look to stop its slide against the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs U18 squad (1-3-1).
Both games start at 7 p.m.
