The Northwestern Health Unit declared Hannam Park beach in Rainy River safe for swimmers today, after it was declared unsafe due to high levels of bacteria two weeks ago.
“We just got the results back now and they’re all good,” public health inspector Brian Norris said this morning.
It was the second consecutive sample this week which indicated bacteria in the water had returned to acceptable levels.
The bacterial readings were linked to the high water levels on Rainy River. When levels are high, more waste is washed into the river from its shores.
The health unit also has been sampling the beach at Pither’s Point here and the water is “safe” so far. But the beach at Sunny Cove Camp had been closed for several days last week.
